The Bulldog, commonly known as the English Bulldog has and is still becoming evermore popular. This is a wonderful breed and every one that sees or comes into contact with it, usually falls in love with it. Along with popularity come many problems. I will attempt to educate you on some of the many bad things that are happening to people everyday.
- Scammers:
I have heard too many stories about people sending money to someone they don’t know with a promise that sounds to good to be true. One of the most common is someone selling you a puppy for a very low amount. They will feed you a line about sending them $500.00 or more just cover the shipping and they will send you this wonderful, wrinkled, lovable bulldog puppy.
This is a bunch of crap; these people are scammers and trying to take your money. No reputable breeder is going to sell you a puppy for $500.00 or a $1000.00. AKC registered puppies usually at a minimum cost $1500.00 to $2500.00. Any one that has any quality in their program and goes about their breeding practices the way they should, will accept nothing less.
- Picture Thieves:
These are people that go around to Breeders that show their dogs and steal pictures of there puppies off of the Breeder’s Website and post them on sites such as Puppy Find and other sub par websites because of the quality that the puppy represents. The thieves are playing on your sense of visual gratification to induce a sell. You send the money and get nothing in return.
It is best to go to the breeder in person to buy your puppy. If time and distance prevent you from doing this, you should require the Breeder that you are considering purchasing a puppy from to send you a picture with the date stamped on it with the Breeder and the puppy included in the photo. Also included in the photo should be a piece of paper with your name on it. If the Breeder actually has the puppy, it only takes about two minutes to write your name on a piece of paper, take a snap shot of the puppy and e-mail it back to you. If the Breeder tells you he or she can not do this then you should take this as a sign and search elsewhere.
- Imports:
On a daily basis people are buying puppies at cheap prices from countries such as Russia and selling them for a profit here in the United States. These puppies are plagued with illness and health problems. The individuals selling these puppies are interested only in your money and nothing else. Reputable Breeders over seas will not sell Bulldogs to a home that is not a proven Show Home. It does not benefit them to send their best examples of the breed to the United States if they are not going to be shown and bring recognition to the Breeder that sent the Bulldog and the Breeder Exhibitor that imported the Bulldog.
You as a potential owner will not have a chance in hell at buying a promising import to be your best friend and nothing more. You should ask yourself why these people are selling you an import. They did not breed the puppy, they are selling it as soon as they get it from these horrible places and most of the time they promise you AKC registration which you will never receive.
- I don’t show, but my dogs are all show quality:
If you breed you should show. The purpose of breeding a quality litter is obtaining quality specimens of the breed. People that say that they have all show quality dogs but don’t show are not being truthful with you. They want your money, and they want to spend as little as they have to in order to induce you to give it to them.
Every litter brought into this world is not going to produce all Champions. Hell, Breeders are lucky if they get one promising show prospect that goes on to complete it's championship quest, but the dogs that are pets and not show dogs should and will be placed on limited registration and on a spay neuter agreement by a reputable breeder. Ask yourself a question about show dogs. If you had a potential show dog that was the best of his breed ever to exist would you not show him or her? If you had a puppy that was destined to be a Best in Show winning dog, would you not show him or her?
People that tell you that they have all show quality dogs and they are not showing them are telling……
Lies…..
